A rich, full-bodied cup starts long before the first sip — it starts at the farm.
Guatemalan SHG (Strictly Hard Green) coffee is among the world's most prized specialty grades, grown at elevations above 4,500 feet where cooler temperatures slow bean development and concentrate flavor. At Kafetos, our beans come directly from a fourth-generation family farm in Guatemala — and brewing them well is the best way to honor that journey.
What You'll Need
- Freshly roasted Kafetos Guatemalan SHG whole beans
- A quality burr grinder
- Filtered water (ideally 200°F / 93°C)
- Your preferred brew method (pour-over, French press, or espresso)
Grind Size Matters
SHG beans are denser than lower-grade coffees, which means they extract more evenly. Use a medium grind for pour-over, coarse for French press, and fine for espresso.
Pour-Over Method (Recommended)
- Grind 20g of beans to medium consistency.
- Rinse your filter with hot water and discard the rinse water.
- Add grounds and bloom with 40ml of water for 30 seconds.
- Pour in slow, circular motions up to 320ml total.
- Total brew time: 3–4 minutes.
Tasting Notes to Expect
Kafetos SHG beans typically yield notes of dark chocolate, brown sugar, and a bright citrus finish — a reflection of Guatemala's volcanic soil and high-altitude terroir.
Pro Tip: Store your beans in an airtight container away from light and heat. Grind only what you need, right before brewing.
